My first literary work, The New Waiver trilogy, is a Christian action/suspense trilogy with a hint of sci-fi and romance. Though the ages of my characters would represent a work of YA or NA fiction, the issues they are confronting and dealing with are adult in nature. With that said, this this work of fiction really is applicable to all ages from teen through adult.
Escape the Pain to Survive, the first book in the trilogy provides a captivating storyline while presenting a number of real world issues that are relevant today. Though free of graphic violence, profanity, and other questionable content, some portions are still a bit violent and/or disturbing. It uniquely clashes the reality of a sin fallen world with the hope found in salvation through Christ. Written in a first person narrative, this story captures the heart and mindset of Sam Jones, a seventeen-year-old girl who endured traumatic violence and abuse throughout her childhood.
Along with being an exciting, suspenseful read, this book is designed to make the reader think. Far too often, society labels people as hopeless or unable to succeed based upon their circumstances growing up or traumatic events they’ve endured throughout their lifetime. Through this work, I sought to dispel that myth by presenting the truth, that Christ offers a free chance of Salvation and a purposeful life to everyone, equally. Though the characters are fictional, there is reality behind each one. The heroes and heroines of this story are not straight A students that came from wealthy homes and promising backgrounds. They are young adults who have experienced horrific trauma and challenging pasts. They seek merely to find a second chance at life until they find themselves in a plot that will potentially change the lives and futures of many. The issues and concepts illustrated throughout the story are both realistic and relevant in our modern world. More so, this story demonstrates how faith and supporting one another can play a vital role in facing and overcoming the past, no matter how dark or painful it was.
Whether the reader has personally experienced hurt or trauma or knows someone who has, this story offers far more than just an exciting read. It provides encouragement and hope. It leaves the reader with a clear message that no human being should ever be seen as a throwaway or of lesser value. God created us all equal, and no trauma or life circumstance can ever define the unique individuals we were so miraculously designed to be. By Him alone can we find the true depth and measure of our worth and calling in life.
